King Albert
I (1875–1934) |
Towards the
end of August 1927 Aden was informed that King and Queen
of the Belgians would be on board the SS Rampura when
she called at Aden around 6 September. Apart from a 31
gun salute there was to be no ceremonial.
The King was
on a private visit to India, and Aden was to avoid laying
on any social function, although if he came ashore the
Resident,
John Henry Keith
Stewart, could invite him for a meal at the Residency.
At the last minute the Government of India ordered that
no salute was to be fired as the Rampura was due at Aden
on a Sunday. |
