Brigadier
General Adam George Forbes Hogg
Brigadier General Adam Hogg was born in 1836, joining
the Bombay Army in 1854. He saw active service in Persia
in 1857, the Indian Mutiny, the China War of 1860 and in
Abyssinia in 1867-68 when he was promoted brevet major.
He was in the Afghan war of 1878-79 when he was promoted
brevet colonel. He was QMG of the Bombay Army from
1880-85 before becoming Political Resident (and
commander of a 2nd Class District) in Aden
from 1885-90. He was appointed CB in 1886. He was
promoted Major General on leaving Aden and Lieutenant
General in 1893.
He had presumably been retired for a while when he was
awarded a KCB in 1904. He died in 1908. In Aden his name
is remembered by the Hogg Tower
on the ridge between Tawahi and Steamer Point which was
built 1894-95.
