Brigadier General Sir James Alexander Bell

Born in 1856, Bell joined the 44^th (East Essex) Regiment in 1875, transferring to the Indian Army in 1879. He commanded the 42^nd Deoli Regiment from 1889-99.

He was AAG Poona Command 1899-1901. From 1906-08 he was Commandant of the School of Musketry at Satara, before commanding a brigade at Lucknow from 1908-10.

Bell was Resident in Aden from 1910 to November 1914. No evidence has been found that he later returned to Aden for a second tour for most of WW1. He was appointed KCVO during the visit of King George V to Aden in 1911. He retired from the Army in 1919 and died in 1926.
