Brigadier General Sir James Alexander Bell

Born in 1856, Bell joined the 44th (East Essex) Regiment in 1875, transferring to the Indian Army in 1879. He commanded the 42nd Deoli Regiment from 1889-99.

He was AAG Poona Command 1899-1901. From 1906-08 he was Commandant of the School of Musketry at Satara, before commanding a brigade at Lucknow from 1908-10.

Bell was Resident in Aden from 1910 to November 1914. No evidence has been found that he later returned to Aden for a second tour for most of WW1. He was appointed KCVO during the visit of King George V to Aden in 1911. He retired from the Army in 1919 and died in 1926.
