General Sir James Alexander Bell
Born in 1856, Bell joined the 44th (East
Essex) Regiment in 1875, transferring to the Indian Army
in 1879. He commanded the 42nd Deoli Regiment
from 1889-99.
He was AAG Poona Command 1899-1901. From 1906-08 he was
Commandant of the School of Musketry at Satara, before
commanding a brigade at Lucknow from 1908-10.
Bell was Resident in Aden from 1910 to November 1914. No
evidence has been found that he later returned to Aden
for a second tour for most of WW1.
He was appointed KCVO during the visit of
King George V to Aden in
1911. He retired from the Army in 1919 and died in 1926. |
