Brigadier
General James Blair VC
Born in 1828, he joined the Army at 16. He served in the
Bombay Cavalry, becoming a Captain in 1857 and a Colonel
in 1873. He was in India during the Mutiny and was
awarded a VC for outstanding acts of bravery at Neemuch
and Jeerum. As a brigadier General he was resident in
Aden from 1882-85. He went onto the retired list in
1889, although he was not promoted to full general until
1894. He died in 1905.
