Brigadier
General William Crawford Walton
Born in 1864 he joined the Royal Scots Fusiliers in
1884, transferring to the Indian Army two years later.
He was ADC to the Governor of Bombay 1895-97 and a staff
officer in the intelligence branch at Simla 1903-06. He
was commandant of 104th Wellesley’s Rifles
1908-14, which included active service in the Persian
Gulf in 1911.
He was Commanding Officer of the 8th
Berkshires for a few months in 1914-15. Later in 1915 he
went to Aden as a full Colonel on the staff. He became
Acting Resident in February 1916, when he also took
command of Aden Brigade. It seems that he remained in
Aden commanding the brigade when Stewart arrived to
become Resident in July 1916 as he was still in Aden in
1917.
His last appointment before retiring in 1920 was
as Inspector of Infantry in South India Command from
1918-20. he died in 1937. Whilst in Aden he was made CMG
in 1916 and awarded a CB in 1917. |
