RAF Pay
Allowances 1964
THE
following notices are intended to give all personnel an idea of the service provided by the Accounts Section
at R.A.F. Khormaksar, and their entitlement to local
allowances.
A
cash service is provided from 07.15 to 11.00 hours daily
except Thursdays and the last working day of the month.
Airmen's casual pay and pay queries are normally held
outside normal duty hours-details can be obtained from
your pay clerk on arrival.
OFFICERS
On
arrival you should be in possession of a pay book that
has been issued by the Central Pay Office. This should
reflect the Fixed Monthly advance of pay that you have
elected to draw locally. In addition you will be
entitled to a Local Overseas Allowance from the date of
arrival in Aden, this is:-
Sqn. Ldr. and Below Married
9/- a day
Single 3/6 a day
Your pay book will be retained by the Accounts Section
for as long as you are on the station. Your allowances
are compiled by the Central Pay Office who will issue a
monthly statement (Form 1067A). This statement after
agreement with your pay book, is forwarded to you,
approximately a full month after the end of the month
concerned, and you are strongly recommended to retain
these in case any queries arise later.
An
assessed entitlement will be compiled from your pay book
monthly and this will be available for payment on the
first day of the following month. Under no circumstances
will pay be paid during the month in which it is
earned.
Your pay and allowances can be drawn in cash from the
Cashier within a limit of two payments a month. Most
officers prefer to have their pay and allowances paid
into an account with one of the local banks. A branch
of National & Grindlays Bank is located just outside the
Families Gate. If you are likely to be detached or on
temporary duty away from the station during your tour,
and have elected to have your pay transferred to a local
bank, it is advisable to make it a joint account to
provide for your family, and also to elect to maintain a
credit balance of your choice in your pay book, this sum
will then be readily available whilst away from the
station.
Cheques drawn on your U.K. bank can be cashed by the
Accountant Officer within certain limitations; further
details are available from the Cashier.
Details of allowances relating to married officers with
their families in Aden are given in the sections below.
AIRMEN
Your pay ledger account is maintained by the Central Pay
Office in Gloucester. You will have been issued with a
pay book that is kept in the Accounts Section while you
are on the station, and details of your pay are kept in
this book. Pay parades are held every fortnight under
section arrangements, make sure that your Squadron or
Section include you in the nominal rolls that are sent
to the Accounts Section for every pay parade.
If you wish you can have your pay sent monthly to a
local bank; there is a branch of National & Grindlays
Bank just outside the Families Gate. Further details
are available from your pay clerk.
You will be entitled to a Local Overseas Allowance from
the day that you arrive in Aden. This will be included
in your pay and the rates for single airmen and married airmen who do not
have their families with them in Aden are as follows:--

Marriage Allowance -- Airmen only
Marriage allowance overseas is paid to the husband with
his pay as soon as his family arrives. It is essential
that all airmen report to the Accounts Section as soon
as possible after the at-rival of their family to
complete the necessary form.
Overseas Family Allowance and Cost of Living Allowance
Overseas Family Allowance plus a supplementary Cost of
Living addition, will be paid locally for the second
child and subsequent children provided they have not
left school. An application form is available in the
Accounts Section and should be completed as soon as
possible after the family arrives. Full details of the
allowances can be obtained when the form is completed.
Education Allowance
Claims for Education Allowances are dealt with each
term and the claims are forwarded by the Accountant
Officer to Central Pay Once for clearance. All claims
for this allowance must be submitted in accordance with
A.M.O. A.203/63.
Travelling
Allowances
Travelling allowances are claimed in the same manner as
in the U.K. The main difference is in the rates, which
are detailed in A.M.O.s, and for airmen are half the
rate for an officer.
Miscellaneous Allowances
Other allowances include Maternity Grants, Flying Risk
Insurance, etc. Claim forms and details are available
in the Accounts Section.
Married Quarters and Hirings Rents
Rent for public accommodation is recovered monthly in
arrears. Bankers Order forms are available to officers
who wish their rent to be recovered from a local bank
account. Airmen's rents are charged to the Pay
Accounts.
