Sayid Zein A. Baharoon
Baharoon was
a man of private means from a well-known family of Hadhrami
origins. As a Sayid he
enjoyed the customary social and religious prestige and as an
active international trader he understood the habits of foreign
capital and the importance of not frightening it away from Aden.
He was a large, thick set man
who viewed the world through thick lensed glasses which further reinforced a
natural look of impenetrability. He had a slow, calm, deliberate way of
talking which accurately reflected his temperament.

Following the death of former
Chief Minister
Hassan Ali Bayoomi there
was overwhelming support for Baharoon and he was appointed Chief
Minister by the Governor, Charles Johnston on 9th July 1963
and fulfilled the role
till 23 January 1965.
As Charles Johnston was leaving Aden after his three
year term he reflected in an optimistic mood as Zein Baharoon seemed to be
making a good start to the new chapter of Federation in Aden's history.
Regrettably for many, the Federation was to be short-lived.
One of Baharoon's many private
business ventures was the BASCO airline.
