I
came across the web site for RAF
Schleswigland, somewhat by chance. I count
myself lucky to have been posted there in
1958/9 as part of 296 Signals Unit, as a J/T
Rotor fitter, on the rotor site at
Brekendorf..
I
remember very fondly, the Bauernfruhstuck,
served up at the
Café
Bauernschanke, as one of the most
satisfying meals that I enjoyed during my
stay. Im grateful for the recipe, which I've
unsuccessfully being trying to re-create
ever since leaving Germany.
While there, we were housed in the
flat-roofed barracks to the right of the
entrance, behind the N.A.A.F.I. building and
later displaced to the rather grand barracks
at the end of the main entrance road, past
the tennis courts. This was at the time when
the Germans were flying the Gannets, notable
for the amount of noise that they could
generate, while we were trying to catch up
on sleep after a night shift at Brekendorf.
